Happy Friday! It's been a pretty rough winter for those who are geographically positioned to experience the Polar Vortex (which is pretty much everyone except SoCal). I had the lovely experience of having one day to do all of my errands in NY before I left for a month for California and it just so happened to be the day it was -11. At that point I felt pretty uninspired. I was sluggish and bloated from the holidays and I realized that that was not how I wanted to start 2014. So, I hope you'll join me in a little mid-winter fitspiration to get us thinking about summer (aka bikini season) because, well, I know it doesn't feel like it now but Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner. Let's focus our energy on the summer light at the end of the tunnel!
Today is all about working the abs with some quick easy moves that you can really do anywhere. There's no gym membership or warm weather required. This is great to add on to your cardio and strength routine.
Standing Crunch: Your basic crunch but with a twist - Stand with feet hip with apart while your hands are behind your head with elbows out. Engage your abs and you cross your right elbow to your left knee. Repeat opposite side.
Side Plank Twist: Borrowed from pilates, this move works your whole core - Begin in a side plank. Put one foot forward to help keep your balance while you curl your arm under your stomach as you twist.
