Lately activewear is having a huge moment in fashion. Everyone is leaving fussy clothes behind for something that encompasses more of a lifestyle where the things you own and purchase can be interchanged easily. Coming from someone who has always been really feminine stylistically I can tell you that this idea is quite refreshing. In another installment of my partnership with adidas and Refinery 29 I decided to show just how versatile sport can be by taking my workout tank from the gym to the street. Everyone has a busy schedule and I know that it’s sometimes impossible in the summer with looming deadlines and a busy social schedule to stop home and completely change after a session at the gym. I used to lug all different outfits with me to change completely and now it’s about having my gym gear be functional, fashionable and efficient.
The adidas Powerluxe tank that I’m wearing (fitting name, right?) already has fashion elements with the burnt out chevron pattern and pop of color along the trim. My take on mixing it in my wardrobe for something more evening is using the sport to contrast something completely opposite. It’s like mixing prints and all of the other tricky things we always talk about. Here are the guidelines I gave myself when putting the look together.
• Keep the colors in a similar family. I brought in the leather jacket and black shoes to tie in the darker fabric of the tank. The pop of color stands out but doesn’t clash with anything else in the outfit. • Play with the unexpected. A sequin mini is the furthest thing from sporty. GOOD. Wear it. Own it. The contrast makes it interesting and makes you look different than everyone else. • Give it a different spin. This tank has a longer hem in the back, which makes it perfect when pairing it with the Powerluxe ¾ tank so your butt is covered while you’re at the gym. I knotted the tank so it had a more tailored fit and looks more feminine.
Hope this inspires you to think about the items in your closet and how you can really make the most out of them! I'm off to the mountains of North Carolina today for the 4th! More soon xx
