Happy Tuesday! It's only a few weeks into May and technically still spring but that doesn't mean that I'm not in the summer mindset already! I'm pretty much always in the summer mindset so it's not surprising . There is just something about resort style that I find most captures my spirit and feels most natural. It's all about light fabrics, wavy beach hair and textured neutrals in classic silhouettes with gypset twist. All of this said, when Tommy Bahama wanted to partner on a summer kick-off I jumped at the opportunity to work with a brand that has such a strong resort lifestyle identity. We joined forces with Elle Magazine for an event in their New York City store, which is like a little sunny oasis in the fast-paced, all black clad concrete desert. There were yummy Mai Tai drinks and spoonfuls of tuna and avocado being passed around while I gave a quick trend presentation with some of their team. It was so fun engaging with the guests (thank you to those who came out!) and hearing more about the trends and inspirations behind the spring collection. They pulled references from Babe Paley's house in Jamaica so there are lively pinks and corals, poolside blues, palm prints, bold stripes and embroidered details. They also have a really cute swimsuit in a sunset print that comes in a rashguard silhouette (one of my favorites for the season).
I chose something that oozed classic resort sophistication. A white linen tunic, belted, with as much texture as I could mix together and finished off with gold accents. It's my perfect summer vacation ensemble that can go from drinks on a rooftop in the city and then out on the first train to the beach. For me, that beach is Stone Harbor and I really wanted to shoot these pictures here to really bring a personal connection to the brand. Judging from the vibe of the town you can see where I get the crisp, neutral inspiration. It's all about a sun kissed glow and laid back sophistication.
Hope this makes you excited for summer and brings a little sunshine to your day! The dog days of summer are almost here!
