I had a conversation recently with my Ashtanga teacher about feeling overwhelmed by this pressure to do the full series workout daily. His response: just get to your mat and START. Maybe I make it through just the beginning, maybe I get into it and finish. It doesn't matter. What matters is that I took the initiative to begin. That in itself is progress, not getting caught up in the perfection of completion.
This state of mind should be celebrated. In an age where everything has to be done right away and fast, it's nice to take it back to the beginning. The quote Remember Why You Started is important. Under Armour just launched at Kohl's and their whole motto is Get Your Start. It's a similar, powerful sentiment. In my readings recently I came across an article about the power of always being a beginner at something. The innocent enthusiasm of starting something new is motivating because you have no expectations or preconceived notions. If we can show up every day with that level of optimism then we are all on a great track to being healthy in mind, body and spirit.
To celebrate this initiative Kohl's and Under Armour are launching a sweepstakes that focuses around the bear crawl. This is such an awesome exercise that requires zero equipment. Having a strong core is key to building that real internal strength that lights you up and creates that fire of stability in the body. To me it's like a walking plank. Super strengthening!
If you share a photo of yourself doing the bear crawl challenge on Twitter and/or Instagram tagging @kohls and #BearCrawlSweepstakes you could win:
- The grand prize: One $1,000 Kohl's gift card
