It’s always tricky to try to keep active on trips. It takes some thought and organization so that I can seamlessly transition my routines and also be prepared to try new things. I skipped over to Scottsdale before embarking on a week long Thanksgiving in Colorado and was overwhelmed with the amount of amazing outdoor activities. It’s the perfect place to both relax under the sun and adventure out in the desert terrain. There’s tons of hiking within minutes of downtown, and heaps of golf, tennis, yoga and even trapeze, which I’ll get to in another post! I took full advantage of everything the city had to offer outdoors but also felt extra organized this trip because I packed insanely well. I had to cover climates ranging from desert to red rocks to Rocky Mountains and also didn’t want to give myself any reason to not continue my ashtanga yoga routine. If I don’t have my mat with me I usually find a reason not to do it!
I think it’s helpful to see a visual that it actually is possible so I’m laying everything out as a guide. I talked last year when I went to Japan about Lo and Sons bags and how they made a great travel companion but I stepped up my gear even more this year in partnership with them for this trip. I upgraded my OMG to the OG and added the Catalina to round out my carry-on luggage. The larger OG fits my laptop as well as sneakers in the genius side compartment. I switch frequently from sandals to sneakers because I usually leave the hotel for the day and don’t come back so I’m well prepared for different activities and the style of the OG has a sleek city vibe so I can bring it out to dinner loaded with my gear. The Catalina fits my yoga mat (!), which is a mega-bonus and even has a bottom compartment so I can travel with my yoga blocks. I wouldn’t honestly even consider bringing any of those things unless I was able to transport them easily so between these two bags I had everything covered. Extra batteries, more sneakers, a new video DJI Osmo, a scarf for the plane, and travel size beauty products all fit between both bags. It’s the most organized I’ve really ever been while traveling.
I usually find that the more organized I am for a trip, the more I tend to commit to staying on schedule. I’ve relied on hotels and resorts before to have things that I like, like yoga mats, blocks or jump ropes, only to find they don’t have any of those things or maybe the mat is really bad quality which can lead to injury, etc. Maybe it’s a little crazy to travel so equipped but I felt the opposite of burdened when I was shuffling between airports and rental cars. Hope this helps inspire you to carry-on (literally) with your active routine during this crazy holiday season!
