The night before the wedding we all gathered at a little taverna called Xeri Elia Douskos, tucked back in the port of Hydra. This taverna has a long history on the island. It was one of Leonard Cohen's favorite haunts and it's retained so much charm ever since. Because our house was in Kamini we took water taxis from Kamini port to Hydra. I had found this Gabriela Hearst gown at UAL (a high-end designer outlet of sorts in Nola) and knew it would be perfect for a moment on the island. It has a slight retro feel so it fit right in with an island stuck in the mid-century.
It was a big time favorite with our friends and family. Some returned to the restaurant a few days later for more delicious traditional greek food. The stuffed grape leaves are the best! I'm counting the days until I can return to the island! Clearly my head is still stuck there and hopefully it becomes a place we spend some real time in the future. Kris bought me a Greek Rosetta Stone so I'm going for it!
